CURRENT PROJECTS

List of current projects:

Currently, there is little to no exposure to internet, computer technology and other technological resources in Nkongsamba, Cameroon.  Students, faculty and administration still rely on typewriters, paper and chalkboards. This negatively affects today’s education in Nkongsamba. Manengouba believes that technology resources are central to education and success, and as a result, Keepod technology literally allows Manengouba to put computer access in the hand of every student by transforming a $7 USB stick into a personal computing platform.

In collaboration with our technology partner, Keepod Ltd., Manengouba invests in the well-being of the youth and adults in our community by developing sustainable and replicable prototypes for effective educational programs to bring value to rural education in Nkongsamba and thereby enable this under-served region to become self-sustaining and meet the challenges of today’s world.

Since October 2014, Manengouba has provided accessibility to modern computer technology to 600 low-income students, including staff and teachers, in the Collège Socka Bongue (CSB) in Nkongsamba, Cameroon. Manengouba will implement academic programs using Keepod technology at CSB in order to empower the Foundation’s programs and activities in the areas of education. The programs and activities, however, will not be limited to students and teachers associated with the CSB; rather, the Foundation’s programs and activities will be offered to anyone in the Nkongsamba community. Pending the success of the initial project, the Foundation will proceed to establish a community technology hub at CSB to serve the larger Nkongsamba community with Keepod.

Keepod makes access to personal computing affordable for users at the price of $7 per device by shifting the focus from the hardware to the software and by separating the two. Combined with refurbished computer stations, users will finally have access to affordable personal computing. Keepod users insert the Keepod device in any computer, turning it into their own personal computer. Each computer can serve dozens of people and each person can work from any computer. Students in schools can use the school computer lab to do their assignments, research or benefit from endless online educational tools.
The computer lab at CSB will be open ten hours a day, six days a week. It will also provide computer access to Keepod users from the community, providing them with new means to learn, communicate, operate and much more. With this method, access to personal computing is made available, opening new doors for our community and creating more equality in the world.
